Backstory

Origins

Punch Up was once a carnival strong man who made a deal with a Sorceress. She gave him the strength of ten men, but as his muscles grew, his body shrunk. The deal left him incredibly powerful but standing at only 3'3". It's possible that as he became stronger but shrunk in size, Punch Up realized his career as the carnival's strong man was ruined and that he would soon be relegated to the carnival's Freak Show. This likely led to depression, drowning his sorrows in alcohol and venting his anger in legal fighting rings.

Criminal Career

Punch Up's criminal record includes battery, parole violation, public intoxication, and second-degree murder. While the specifics are unknown, it's speculated that he killed someone accidentally while intoxicated, and that person was likely connected to organized crime. At some point, Coupé was sent to assassinate him. She found Punch Up watching Swan Lake while crying and eating a bucket of ice cream (he couldn't find the remote to change the channel and was too depressed to get out of his chair). When she attempted to stab him from behind, she failed due to his dense body structure. The ensuing fight eventually led to the two having intercourse, beginning a serious romantic relationship that continued until just before the Phoenix Program.

Appearance

Punch Up is a short, muscular man with short black hair, a mustache, and green eyes. He has cauliflower ears from blunt force trauma and a large rose tattoo on his left forearm.

Personality

Punch Up is a hearty person. What he lacks in height and stature, he makes up in strength and personality. Key personality traits: - Loves Fighting: Enjoys combat even when facing potential defeat, never letting losses break his spirit - Resilient: Only gets frustrated when difficult team members like Waterboy or Phenomaman join the roster - Passive-Aggressive: After Coupé is cut from the team, he pranks Robert by putting pornography with loud audio on his computer - Respectfully Avoidant: Will occasionally reject dispatches and perform an "Irish goodbye" to clock out early

Powers and Abilities

Supernatural Strength

- Strength of Ten Men: Granted by the Sorceress, possesses superhuman strength in his compact form - Dense Body Structure: Immune to knife stabbing and other penetrative weaponry (though his nose can still be broken)

Other Abilities

- Picnokinesis: The power to alter the density of an object or oneself (stated on his file, not overtly shown) - Pain Immunity: Can take heavy damage without slowing down, repeatedly punching Toxic's corrosive body without flinching - Healing Factor: Possesses minor regeneration, with small wounds like glass cuts healing almost instantly

In-Game Powers

- Hard Head: Doesn't receive any debuffs from injuries. Cannot be downed. - Squeeze In: On a call with fewer than 4 slots, creates a slot exclusively for him to join. - Harder Head: While injured, receives +2 Combat, +2 Vigor, and reduces rest time.

Relationships

Coupé

His ex-girlfriend who was originally sent to assassinate him. Despite breaking up before the Phoenix Program, they remain close and have increased synergy when dispatched together.

Waterboy

Forms synergy with him if Coupé is cut from the team. Engages in arm wrestling despite lasting only 4-5 seconds.

Trivia

Punch Up is an homage to Marvel Comics character Puck who, through biological modification, gained significant strength and durability at the expense of shrinking to 3.5 feet tall
His voice actor, Seán McLoughlin (Jacksepticeye), gave him a Dublin accent to avoid stereotypical Irish accents
When paired with Waterboy, Waterboy may say "Top of the morning" - a reference to McLoughlin's signature YouTube intro. Punch Up responds, "Don't even try it."
When paired with Coupé, the same greeting makes him flustered instead
Due to his dense body structure, he's immune to knives, broken glass, and other penetrative weapons
