Backstory

Origins

The first time Roy came to the mainland, he tried to steal from a Radio Shack, but Robert Robertson II caught him in the act. Rather than immediately turning him in, the two sat and talked about tech for an hour before Roy was taken to jail.

The Phoenix Program

Roy ended up in the Phoenix Program, a rehabilitation initiative for criminals. He became one of their most successful participants, transforming from a petty thief into a valued member of the SDN team.

Appearance

Royd is very tall and muscular, with long, black hair and brown eyes. He has a large tattoo on his right arm. He wears the standard-issue SDN work uniform along with large orange wristbands on each wrist. When he has to read over documents more closely, he will put on reading glasses.

Personality

Royd is very chummy and a kind-hearted man. He likes making new friends and joking around. Key personality traits: - Friendly: His joyful personality can sometimes lead him to awkward situations—like accidentally revealing Robert's superhero identity. - Deceptively brilliant: While giving the impression of being a bit "simple," he is actually a technological genius capable of developing and fixing the most advanced equipment.

Powers and Abilities

Superhuman Strength

- Enhanced Lifting: Royd can easily carry large pieces of the Mecha Man suit. - Restraining Power: He was able to briefly hold the Mecha Suit in place when Robert was losing control of it. - Combat Application: During the Red Ring assault on SDN headquarters, he tossed Red Ring members around like ragdolls.

Skills

- Master Engineer: Royd is an extremely brilliant engineer and robotics technician, allowing him to work on restoring Mecha Man's armor. - Armor Modification: He modified most of the armor components and upgraded them, giving the armor new weapon arsenals and surpassing its predecessor.

Relationships

Robert Robertson II

Mentor figure. The original Mecha Man caught Royd stealing but saw potential in him, leading to a conversation about tech that changed Roy's life trajectory.

Trivia

  • Due to three other workers at SDN also being named Roy, he goes by "Royd" to differentiate himself—though he's not sure how this came to be.
  • Based on his tattoo and use of Hawaiian Pidgin vocabulary, it's likely Royd comes from the Polynesia region.
  • Originally, Royd would have been a deployable character more involved with the Z-Team. He was initially designed to have a transformative power that increased his size and strength—this explains the Royd we see in the banner of Dispatch promotional images.
