Backstory

Criminal Career

Sonar attended Harvard University, and after graduating, turned to crime. He orchestrated some of the most effective Silicon Valley investment frauds in US history. His crimes include embezzlement, extortion, drug possession, forgery, fraud, money-laundering, perjury, and cyberbullying. During this period, he also became addicted to various controlled substances.

Joining SDN

At some point, Sonar was convicted and incarcerated at California State Prison in Los Angeles County. He was identified as an ideal candidate for the experimental Phoenix Program, and his custody was transferred to the Torrance branch under conditional probation. He was assigned to the Z-Team managed by Blonde Blazer.

Joining the Red Ring (Determinant)

If the player chooses to fire Sonar, he is recruited by Shroud to seek revenge. He joins the Red Ring in causing havoc across the city before storming the SDN to get the Astral Pulse from Mecha Man. Sonar is ultimately defeated by Mecha Man and Blonde Blazer. The player can then choose to let him be imprisoned or give him another chance in the Phoenix Program.

Appearance

In his hybrid form, Sonar has a tall human body with white skin but the head of a bat with sharp fangs, large ears, and pure white eyes. He has fluffy gray fur and a pink snout, often wearing a navy-blue suit with a red tie and black dress pants. In his Megabat form, Sonar becomes a massive hulking bat-like creature, several times larger than the average human. His eyes blaze red, his jaws grow larger and more fearsome, and his hands develop large dagger-like claws. Large fan-like wings extend from his wrists to his forearms, which can fold when walking or standing.

Personality

Sonar is arrogant on the surface, constantly bragging about his Harvard education to the point his colleagues can't stand it. He's also aloof, claiming he "wasn't trying as hard" when he fails missions. Key personality traits: - Genuine Care: Despite his ego, cares about teammates - sides with members wanting to cut Invisigal after Chase is hospitalized, and threatens to eat anyone if Waterboy dies during rescue - Takes Rehabilitation Seriously: Views being cut from the team as betrayal, which is why he joins Shroud's "Me-Team" if fired - Substance Abuser: Openly uses cocaine and other substances; Malevola is his sponsor helping him break the habit - Struggles with Humor: Fails to understand jokes, repeatedly saying "Robert Robertson" trying to comprehend what's funny about the name Due to his Chiropteran physiology, Sonar enjoys eating insects and small mammals like rats (though he can eat human food like Twinkies and tacos), needs to scream periodically for echolocation, and according to Coupé, frequently relieves himself in the SDN parking lot.

Megabat Physiology

- Transformation: Can transform into a giant monstrous bat, though he can't control when it happens. Transforms automatically after returning from missions and retains sanity in that form. - Echolocation: Screams periodically to identify surroundings - Sonic Scream: Can scream at objects to destroy them - Flight: Gains wings in Megabat form enabling flight - Enhanced Combat: Uses sharp teeth, dagger-like claws, and primal strength to overwhelm opponents - Superhuman Strength: Can hold his own against Mecha Man and harm Blonde Blazer - Superhuman Durability: Can survive getting slashed in the eye

Former Powers

- Energy Beam Emission: After being augmented by Shroud, can project high-concentration red energy beams strong enough to contend with Blonde Blazer's beam

In-Game Powers

- Instincts: Transforms after returning from a call. Intellect swaps with Combat, Charisma swaps with Vigor until next call. - Bat Shit: In Megabat form, immune to injuries and resting time reduced by half. - Talk Shit: In Hybrid form, if sent to a call that fails, talks his way out and reattempts. - Strong Back: If transformed, flies to call locations greatly reducing travel time. Also carries non-flying heroes.
